I love the opportunity to work on a painting that is a bit outside my comfort range, and this is a great example of that. This was created for a lady in Nichols Hills, Oklahoma. She loves this dog more than anything and I was so excited to work on this for her.
I'm familiar with the breed, and have painted at least one before this but the coloring of the coat was quite different than before, and we wanted to include some more environment in the background, as the wind in the fur would not make as much sense in an abstract background. So I chose to simulate a blurry natural scene to give the painting context. The customer happens to be a talented artist as well, and I'm glad I didnt know that before painting this for her as I would have been a bit nervous and probably over-think things! |
